Unselected - 'Jewel of the Valley'

The Unselected Series : It is with great pleasure that we share these ‘UNSELECTED’ ideas. Ideas and concepts that were brought to the edge of existence but were not chosen to partake in the material realm at this time. These ideas and concepts have either been dismissed as unrealistic or unreasonable by the Studio Capacitor team, or have been shown to a committee as a part of an RFP and did not make the final round. Please enjoy what could have been, and what might one day be.

We made a small maquette. It lives at our office rent free.

Statement

The state gem of Idaho is the star garnet. It is a rare and beautiful stone whose natural form is the rhombic dodecahedron, seen suspended here.

Held 15 feet aloft by steel columns and fashioned from dark red acrylic, this elegant geometric form speaks to the unique and diverse geological landscape of Idaho. An additional interpretive plaque described the shape and it’s rich connection to the surroundings.
